About KBOR and TEA
The nine-member Kansas Board of Regents is the governing board of the state's six universities and the statewide coordinating board for those universities plus 19 community colleges and six technical colleges. The Board administers the state's student financial aid, adult education, GED and career and technical education programs. The Board also authorizes private proprietary schools and out-of-state institutions to operate in Kansas and administers the Kan-ed network, a statewide network that provides broadband Internet access and distance learning capabilities for schools, hospitals and libraries.
The 12-member Kansas Postsecondary Technical Education Authority (TEA), which operates within the Kansas Board of Regents, was created by the Kansas Legislature in 2007, and is charged with coordinating statewide planning for postsecondary technical education.
CTE
Career Technical Education (CTE) programs are offered at 26 public colleges. These programs offer tightly focused career training in a wide range of fields. Most programs can be completed in two years or less.
Programs are centered on a comprehensive, learner-focused system that develops academic, technical and workplace skills for either immediate employment or future career development through continued education.
The Mission
The Kansas Board of Regents shall pursue measurable, continuous improvement in the quality and effectiveness of the public postsecondary educational system in Kansas, while expanding participation for all qualified Kansans. To achieve that mission, the board will demand accountability, focus resources and advocate powerfully.
